Ingredients:
        350g (12oz) self raising flour 
          100g (4oz) demerara sugar 
          100g (4oz) soft brown sugar 
          1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 
          3 heaped teaspoons ground ginger 
          1 egg (beaten) 
          100g (4oz) butter 
          1 heaped tablespoon golden syrup 
        Putting it together:
        Pre-heat the oven to 160c (350f, gas mark 3) 
          Grease several baking trays 
          Melt the butter and golden syrup together 
          Mix all the dry ingredients together  
          Add the beaten egg, and the metled butter and golden syrup 
          Mix thoroughly. 
          Roll into small ball and place well apart on the baking trays (about 
          5cm / 2 inches) 
          Baken in the oven for approx. 20 minutes 
          Remove the gingernuts from the baking tray and cool on wire racks. 
          Store in an airtight container. 
           
          Makes approx. 50 gingernuts.
